Saturday morning breakfast

We tried a new recipe for breakfast this morning.  Everyone around here loved it, so I’ll pass it along.  The recipe comes from here.  She calls them french breakfast puffs.  We called them “yummy.”


    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1/3 cup butter
    • 1 egg
    • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (I have fresh nutmeg, so I just grated a little into the mix)
    • 1/2 cup milk
For the topping:
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Grease muffin tin (this makes 9-10 muffins so you can leave two ungreased).  Cream together sugar, butter and egg.  Combine flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg in a small bowl.  Alternate adding dry ingredient and milk to sugar/butter mixture.  Scoop into muffin tin (about 2/3 full).  The original recipe said it makes 9 but I got 10 out of the batter.  Bake for 20-25 minutes (mine were done after 21).

Melt butter.  Combine cinnamon and sugar.  Remove warm muffins from tin and roll in melted butter and then sugar and cinnamon mixture.  EAT and EAT and EAT!
